Wyoming Area approves partnership with digital mental health provider Kooth

The Citizens' Voice - 11/16/2022

Nov. 16—The Wyoming Area School Board voted Tuesday to approve a partnership with digital mental health provider Kooth.

The state is funding Wyoming Area's participation in the pilot program "to provide our students with access to a personalized, digital mental health and wellbeing platform," Wyoming Area said on its website.

"Students can access support for any issue they may be experiencing through peer-to-peer support, self-help tools and counseling sessions. This includes articles and personal experiences from users and the Kooth team, discussion boards and daily journals," the district said.

The program is available to students 11 to 18 years old, subject to appropriate parental consent. Students can register at www.kooth.com.

The state announced $3 million is available for the pilot mental health program for schools. The Wyoming Valley West School District is also participating in the pilot program.

In October, Kooth CEO Tim Barker joined state Rep. Aaron Kaufer, R-120, Kingston, and local officials in front of the company's future U.S. headquarters at the Cross Valley West Professional Building at 150 Welles St. to announce the company will initially create 15 to 20 jobs there.
